Web Access Strategies

Training

Previous Work

Advantage Internet

I developed a brand new Web Accessibility course from the ground up and have instructed numerous sessions of that class. In fact, some of my students have been computer science teachers at area colleges. In addition to the Web Accessibility course, I also revamped their course in Cascading Style Sheets and teach that as well.

During these one-day training exercises, Web Access Strategies' staff meet face-to-face with your development staff to help them learn more new web production techniques that are more user-friendly while also being more efficient for both the production staff and your organization as a whole.

Our staff instructs you to learn why before showing you how, so you gain a true understanding of the topic we discuss rather than just a list of commandments to abide by. We feel that teaching the theory behind a thing is as important as the thing itself and learning the background will allow you to adapt what you learn in training to what you'll be doing on your particular site.

Back to Basics - Proper HTML Markup

Regardless of what programming, database, or platform you use to program your site, what is sent to the users' browser is HTML. Learn how to create web pages and web-based applications which are more efficient, easier to maintain, and more accessible. Our staff will show you how to trim document weight, eliminate the abuse of tables and spacer images for layout, increase cross-platform compatibility, and become more user-friendly and accessible.

Intro to Section 508

Learn the background of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. Learn how to avoid the five most common Section 508 violations. Learn to create tables, forms, and frames which comply with Section 508 guidelines.

Advanced Accessibility - WCAG

Delve deeper into Accessible web design with our coverage of advance accessibility and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines by the W3C's Web Accessibility Initiative. Learn how to make web sites and applications easier to use for the disabled.

Accessible Programming

Learn to deliver database-driven content in an accessible manner. This training session uses PHP/ MySQL as its basis, though the content can be adapted to any server-side programming language such as ASP.NET, JSP, Perl and any other language that is used to pre-process information before sending HTML to screen.

Conversion to CSS to Enhance Accessibility.

Now that CSS is well-supported by all major browsers, learn to use advanced production techniques with CSS to enhance Accessibility. This session is a perfect follow-up to the "Back to Basics" course, above.

Search Engine Optimization Techniques

Geared toward corporate clients and government clients who wish to ensure their content rises above the sometimes questionable or biased content from the private sector. We will teach your staff several sound and proven production techniques shown to deliver higher rankings in search engines.
